You will need the kernel headers/source matching you running kernel
version *exactly*! This is important as this can and probably will make
it fail to load the ivtv module.

For a 2.6.21 or less kernel the best place to go is the general howto on
the wiki [1].

If you have a linux 2.6.22 kernel get [2] and follow the instructions
from the INSTALL file (basically: make all && make install). This should
overwrite all the old v4l/dvb modules which came with the kernel
originally. Reload the modules or re-boot and you should be done.

If you have specific question let us know.

You will have to create a custom kernel or delete the original
module/uninstall ivtv. I would go for deleting/uninstalling the original
module for now.

No but you will understand better how building modules/kernels is done
and It *will* be fun ;-)

As a general instruction for source packages, read the README and
INSTALL files. Both the v4l/dvb repo and ivtv-0.10 are pretty well
documented how to build them.

I am not sure how/if the cropping works with ivtv but my theory is
that you want to set left to a small number > 0 basically equal to
the width of the bar.

That little black bar is common feature on most TV broadcasts. We just don't
see it on normal TV's because of the overscan. Nigh on all the television
channels here in New Zealand have that in varying widths. If you're
outputting to a TV just adjust the output to be slightly bigger and bingo.

I have them on both sides and this is very likely already in the
broadcast as Meow said. You just don't see them on a normal tv.

If I understood Hans correctly cropping is not supported by the hardware
and should be handled by userspace.

Mplayer has a nice feature which will detect the crop values.
  mplayer -vf cropdetect <file>.mpg

And you can pass these values to mplayer again (eg mplayer -vf
crop=704:416:10:72).

Hi list,

I have version 1.50 of ivtv-tune.

I need to set the channel at linux startup (in some init script) but when i
do this i got segmentation fault...

If I exec the same command (already loged in) works fine...

I try with ivtv-tune -c 23 and ivtv-tune -f 217.250 but with both the same
problem

There is someone with a similar problem? and maybe a solution for this ?

I'm using ubuntu server feisty
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -l |grep ivtv
ii ivtv-firmware 0.20070217
Firmware used by the IVTV project
ii ivtv-utils 0.10.1-0ubuntu1
utilities for use with the ivtv kernel drive

Any ideas ?

Best regards and thanks in advance.

PS: Sorry for my english :D

It may sound silly, but have you tried it without the space between "c" and
"23" ? I've experienced segmentation faults with other command line
programs (handbrake) when I left a space between an option like that and the
value.
