I tried recording a bunch of stuff yesterday but failed to reproduce a
TIMEOUT from it (arg).  I vaguely recall someone else having a similar
issue: reproducing it with debugging on seemed to be a problem.

I did get one hard freeze but I'm not sure it was related to ivtv.  Nor
was it me that reset the box (it was my wife) so I'm not sure of the
conditions at the time.  Just in case, the following few lines occurred
right before the freeze:
