You'll almost certainly need to find the currently installed modules in
your /lib/modules tree and remove them before you run 'depmod' in the
process of installing the newer ones.

On my fedora system, for example, make install from the ivtv source put
the new modules in a different place in the tree and I ended up with two
copies (and which one gets loaded is up to, um, something but not you!)
