Only the video freezes. I can still ssh into the machine. I can even 
escape out of Mythtv back to the menu (on the monitor), and then 
resume watching television on TV Out.

(Although if I exit right out, and then immediately go back in, the 
stutter/freeze starts almost immediately. If I give it a minute or 
so, I'm good.)

Feels a lot like a resource problem, but the CPU is around 5%, and 
plenty of memory still available in cache, and plenty of drive space.

I suspected heat maybe, but there's plenty of room for air to 
circulate, and there's a fan blowing directly on the PVR
