Hey there,

I have been using gentoo as my distro on my mythtv system for about a half a year, and now I am dead in the water.

I have a lengthy post at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-694470.html, but no ideas on how to solve my issue have occurred.

Basics of my system:
    gentoo
    x86
    PVR-500
    PVR-350

So all of sudden (not sure what precipitated this issue), I cannot get past udev coming up whenever I have my kernel configured as needed to support the ivtv driver.

I have started from the default kernel configuration, made minor changes for my system (processor, file systems, and SATA control), and I can boot into that kernel.  I should mention that at this time I have unmerged the user space part of ivtv (emerge --unmerge ivtv).  So I then made the four changes per http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Howto:Gentoo:
- Device Drivers -> Multimedia Devices -> Video For Linux (CONFIG_VIDEO_DEV)
- Device Drivers -> I2C support (CONFIG_I2C)
- Device Drivers -> Multimedia Devices -> Enable Video For Linux API 1 (DEPRECATED) (CONFIG_VIDEO_V4L1)
- Device Drivers -> Multimedia Devices -> Video capture adapters -> Conexant cx23416/cx23415 MPEG encoder/decoder support (CONFIG_VIDEO_IVTV)

Build the kernel, boot into it, and my freezing issue occurs.  It seems that whatever I do that if I enable the above options, my kernel will freeze.  This after using different source versions and using genkernel.

As can be seen in my gentoo post, I have tried numerous troubleshooting steps which have all results in no progress ( in my mind).

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

On the bright side, at least I can boot into a system which is fully functional except for creating new recordings.

Thanks
Mike
