Are you testing this using the bleeding edge drivers? 
(http://www.ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Download#Bleeding_Edge_driver)

That makes it *much* easier for me to debug it. Since it stops capturing 
rather than returning to the prompt I suspect DMA problems. What 
chipset is your motherboard using? Intel? VIA? Other?
