The jury is in: I *am* a Putz !
Apparently I missed that mythtv was set to PAL-60, all my efforts of 
recompiling kernels and bleeding-edge drivers moot !

I am a little doubtful still, as I also had the bad image/sound syncing 
when I did a cold boot and tested the pvr250 with ivtv-tune and mplayer 
only.
Apparently the PAL-60 setting is either default or really stubborn.
