Hi all, I am new to the tv-tuner world and just bought a hauppauge hvr-1600 for use w/ ubuntu 8.10. I've gotten it to work in windows, but not in linux. I am using time warner analog cable/ntsc.
Other notes: I'm using the options "vmalloc=256M pci=nommconf" for my kernel. I have two questions: 1) I tried mythtv but it required too much manual setup, so I tried using movieplayer/vlc/kaffeine. These all give the options to use the capture card but I don't know how to configure: vlc: requires that I specify video device so I inputted "/dev/vbi0" and "/dev/vbi" but I just get a black screen. kaffeine: I use digital tv (since there is no analog tv option) but when I hit "scan" for channels it just freezes movieplayer: I choose "watch TV on 'dvb adapter 0' "a but it says "Totem is missing a channels listing to be able to tune the receiver." So I tried creating channel.conf but was not able to scan since there is no intial output example file for scan/dvbscan for ntsc/analog cable. I gave up and tried xawtv. This has the most simple interface I've seen, and will attempt to use this. Using the "scantv" command didn't work because it said "/dev/vbi" didn't exist, so I had to create a link for it with /dev/vbi0. After that scantv worked but created a SEGMENTATION FAULT after successfully scanning frequencies 44 - 51. Here is the output: ?? 50.75 MHz (- ): | no ?? 51.00 MHz (- ): \ raise ?? 51.25 MHz (- ): | yes ?? 51.50 MHz (- ): | yes ?? 51.75 MHz (- ): | yes ?? 52.00 MHz (- ): | yes ?? 52.25 MHz (- ): / fall => 51.62 MHz (- ): ??? Segmentation fault Does anyone know what's going on? 2) When I first started my computer up after putting in the card, linux alerted me that there was a conflict with my xserver and the new card. It put me into low-graphics mode. I have recently set it back to normal graphics mode, but I don't know if there's still a conflict with the card that will cause any problems. Does anyone have experience with this? My video card is the nvidia 8800 GT. Please help. Any installation notes, words of advice, or experiences would be helpful. Thanks in advance, Julian _______________________________________________ ivtv-users mailing list [email protected] http://ivtvdriver.org/mailman/listinfo/ivtv-users
