UPDATE:

I got it working so that I can now scan for channels. Xawtv properly
recognizes the scantv output.

However, I still can't get video. When I choose a channel I get the
following error message:

<msg>
This is xawtv-3.95.dfsg.1, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.27-7-generic)
xinerama 0: 1680x1050+0+0
WARNING: No DGA direct video mode for this display.
/dev/video0 [v4l2]: no overlay support
v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-ledfixed-medium-r-*--39-*-*-*-c-*-*-*" to
type FontStruct
</msg>

So I googled for DGA, and suspected I may not have privileges to use DGA, so
I tried running as root but that didn't work either.

When I change the channel I get the following error message:

<msg>
no way to get: 384x288 32 bit TrueColor (LE: bgr-)
no way to get: 128x96 32 bit TrueColor (LE: bgr-)
</msg>

I suspect that this error may relate to my 8800 GT graphics card.

Some additional info:

Doing a hardware scan:

$ xawtv -hwscan
This is xawtv-3.95.dfsg.1, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.27-7-generic)
looking for available devices
port 280-311
     type : Xvideo, image scaler
     name : NV17 Video Texture

/dev/video0: OK                         [ -device /dev/video0 ]
     type : v4l2
     name : Hauppauge HVR-1600
     flags:  capture tuner

Please help.
