Thanks for the reply to my cryptic description :-)

I assume this output from dmesg indicates that I have saa7127:

dmesg | grep -i saa
tveeprom 0-0050: decoder processor is SAA7115 (idx 19)
saa7115 0-0021: saa7115 found (1f7115d0e100000) @ 0x42 (ivtv i2c driver #0)
saa7127 0-0044: saa7127_auto found @ 0x88 (ivtv i2c driver #0)

I applied the patch you linked to (had to manually apply hunk #5 for some
reason) and got some even crazier output ... all of the screen is either green
or purple, no other colors. Though I'm pretty sure I must have messed-up
somewhere in the patching process.

I've attached my .config to this message on the off chance you might see
something obvious I've misconfigured. In the meantime I'm happy stay with
2.6.27.6 which works great. Will also try 2.2.28.1 if it has the saa7127 fix.

In the unlikely event this turns out to be an actual bug in 2.6.28 I'd be happy
to help debug.

Thanks again for the help.
