$ v4l2-ctl --help
$ v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --list-inputs
ioctl: VIDIOC_ENUMINPUT
Input : 0
Name : Tuner 1
Type : 0x00000001
Audioset: 0x00000007
Tuner : 0x00000000
Standard: 0x0000000000001000 ( NTSC )
Status : 0
Input : 1
Name : S-Video 1
Type : 0x00000002
Audioset: 0x00000007
Tuner : 0x00000000
Standard: 0x0000000000FFFFFF ( PAL NTSC SECAM )
Status : 0
[....]
$ v4l2-ctl -d /dev/video0 --set-input 1
Video input set to 1 (S-Video 1)
(That will also set the audio inputs to Line-In 1 audio.)
$ ivtv-tune -d /dev/video0 -t us-bcast -c 3
/dev/video0: 61.250 MHz
$ cat /dev/video0 > foo.mpg
(foo.mpg will be an MPEG-2 PS with video and audio multiplexed in.)
Instead of cat, you could have also done
$ mplayer /dev/video0
To decode and play the MPEG-2 encoded audio and video streams.
If you just want to hear the raw PCM audio samples being fed into the
CX23416 MPEG encoder you could do this
$ aplay -f dat < /dev/video24
