I’d like to become more actively involved in Xerces project, from a development perspective and wanted to solicit some feedback on the best way to contribute, especially to the upcoming 2.8.0 release. I’ve read all of the various “Getting Involved” documents from the XML projects to the Jakarta projects. I’ve tried submitting patches for small enhancements and fixes via the bug tracking (JIRA), but that doesn’t seem to work as well with this group as it does with others, so I thought I’d take a more direct approach.

Some thoughts I had for possible tasks:

  • I noticed that the majority of test classes are NOT JUnits. Since there are a couple, I didn’t know if this was intentional or just the way things have evolved, so I thought I could spend some time building out the current tests as JUnits.
  • Code cleanup and optimization – I’m sure there are a number of little items that are desired, but no one has had the time to do them. I’d be willing to spend some time on any small projects like that.

Let me know how I can help, thanks.
