Description:
there are 2 github repos for Xerces:
* [https://github.com/apache/xerces-j/] (last published artifact:
{{{}xerces:xerces:2.4.0{}}})
* [https://github.com/apache/xerces2-j/] (last published artifact:
{{{}xerces:xercesImpl:2.12.2{}}})
the xerces-j repo appears to be much more up to date than the xerces2-j one
despite the fact that the xerces-j repo seems to be where most people are
making pull requests.
Neither provide a clear indication of the reason for having two repositories or
which one is considered active.
Looking at the history of each I can see that up until April 2019 they seem to
have the same changes:
[https://github.com/apache/xerces-j/commits/main]
[https://github.com/apache/xerces2-j/commits/trunk/]
although the commit hash's differ:
!image-2024-09-24-00-58-33-645.png|width=1029,height=408!
If it is the case that [https://github.com/apache/xerces-j/] is the correct
repo to use then please make the other one read-only with a note to let users
know. It's confusing and could be wasting peoples time if they are making PR's
to a dead repo. There are currently 10 pull requests on the
[https://github.com/apache/xerces2-j/pulls] repo, perhaps they need rebasing
onto xerces-j.
also, please consider merging [https://github.com/apache/xerces-j/pull/1] as I
have another branch that I want to make a pull request for but would like to at
least have some CI in place first.
