Exactly this is a problem.
Client is explicitly asking for an empty resource.
Empty resource is so obviously invalid, that the only way server could
react is to report an error.
It's not a server job to work around client errors.
And doing so is a very bad practice - it tends to backfire.
Thus, the only acceptable course of action here is to submit a bug to
client author and request a fix there.
