that are a lot of questions. Some are more of a hint I suppose. Just to
answer your last question: to get a comma into the et al string try

EtAl=\, et al.

This problem can be solved by using the export-filter editor  (have a look
at the ressources page http://jabref.sourceforge.net/resources.php) and
copying the code of the preview window of the editor into the preview
window of jabref.

May be the Editor is of some help for some further issues you have.
