Dear Bernhard, I use [authorsAlpha][year] and I am very satisfied with that. It took me a bit of time to get used to the four digit year, but regarding the y2k issues, I would switch to the full year form to avoid confusions.
To get the effect you want, use [authorsAlpha][shortyear] Hint: There is a red question mark at Options/Preferences/BibTeX key generator where all patterns are explained.
