I don't have this file in front of me, but I can remember things about
channel selection in pconfig.h (or adc.h ?), according to the group PICs
belong to.

Finding a new person might take more time than writing the lib from scratch
:)
I can handle this, but wouldn't want spending 100% on my time on this.
That's why I was talking about a background task.
