Good, I hope we've essentially reached an agreement then: Add a 'beta
release tag', and pick a specific minimum number of days: 21 still too
long, how about 14 days?

A tag of the 'beta release' and a tag of the 'final release', allows
anyone to use the online/web SVN tools to quickly see what changes (if
any) happened between the beta and final. I think this is very
important, and it is trivial to add the beta tag, like you did in the
past. It costs you nothing, and will be convenient for me.

Having a specific minimum number of days between 'beta release' and
'final release' will allow the possibility of some testing, and also
will prevent 'big surprises' (sounds better than big mistake?), like I
received when I woke up on Dec 30th (having been away from home for a
week), and found you and Rob had decided to grab the TORELEASE while I
was asleep, and also to switch from 2.4l to the official 2.4m (which
is quite different than the August beta).
