I think you are the best to judge this.
If you do abandon the conversion, you might consider the current one
to be the last. Unless of course, your recent work adds significant
value. In general, I would not be in favor of a last change that
breaks user code (but I do think this is acceptable if it is an
investment for future conversions)...

That would be a major loss for jal and jallib, but I can imagine it is
hard to remain motivated when each release of MPLAB gives you new
issues.
Maybe an idea to leave it for now and see what MPLAB X brings?
