I had the same reasoning.
If you refer to the .pic files, they already exist with MPLAB-8.
I've managed to parse .pic files for the next version of PMP and it is far
easier to parse, using some xml component it's even easier; there's less
inconsistencies (some are still there, thanks MCHP - it would have been too
easy).
They contain a bit more information, a lot of them are esoteric-voodoo MCHP
internal use only; the .inc files and aliases may be built from this
information; there's although the hw pinout information / pin aliases (only
one package - the default one, it seems to be mainly the DIP one or the QFP
if there's no DIP).
