We have discussed the (re)organisation of samples before. See also issue #184. The automatically generated docs have per library a table of samples using this library. So users of a library can easily find related samples (provided they RTFM!).
Some people might wish to search with PIC type, others with library type or maybe another property or a combination of properties. Neither a simple file rename nor a split of the sample directory would completely solve the problem. Maybe a table or wiki could be useful, or a search app...
Of course, I have to ask... how did you make this list? I'm sure it's a simple, but it may be useful later.
A Python script. I didn't commit earlier since it didn't have the proper header and description. But it is now present in tools.
