while keeping svn is the easiest way in short term, you should also
consider the source code visibility, also in terms of social. google code
failed where github suceeded because github managed to define source repo
as a social media. as a consequence, projects have great visibility on
github, it has become a de facto standard for open source projects, in a
way. you have lots of metrics about your projects, for you but also for
your users, showing how sane and amive is your project.

local svn repo will keep you away from having to learn git (is it really
something bad, learning something new ?) but also will add maintenance &
security burden, lower visibility and terribly looks like 90'... ;)
