So, the new PICs won't be supported anymore by JAL. And Microchip won't
provide the libs (I refer to the old PLIB) for them. As I understand, the
only way is to use their visual code generator that generates sources
marked with Microchip copyright and agreements. That is definitely not for
me. Also, Microchip will stop providing support for gcc regarding AVR
micros, and will further develop their xc8 compiler to take over. There is
Great Cow Basic that has an active development for PICs and AVRs, new and
old. For now. ST Microelectronics (STM32 micro provider) did the same with
their SPL library, dropped it and started a new, bloated one that has
support in their visual configurator CubeMX and, as you guessed, the
generated code is copyrighted to ST.M., with agreements. I started my own
Visual Pin Configurator that uses the old SPL library as I want that my
code to be my code (almost ready). I'm pretty sure that the "Lords of this
world" didn't liked the Arduino and RepRap revolutions so, they work hard
to contain the phenomenon - everything goes into the cloud(s), visual code
generators are promoted hard, and bloaty libraries that lack performance
are promoted with licenses that make you think that they did you a huge
favor. Solutions? Those are becoming rare and time will cover them in dust,
as everything new is well controlled/contained.
Thank you Kyle for swam against the current for such a long time! God bless
you!
