... this is now in progress. Metal look and feel seems to behave itself - so
the challenge is to get it running on Ubuntu.

Subject: [Jalview-dev] look and feel problems on Linux/Ubuntu - JAL-2255

The Database Chooser is unusable on Linux, due to a problem with the
default platform look and feel.
http://issues.jalview.org/browse/JAL-2255

I had a quick play, and can reproduce the problem to some extent by
switching to a different look and feel (I tried seaglass..).

One drastic solution is to drop the chooser dialog, and go back to the
drop-down menu (which is still implemented, but not used by default).

Alternatively, someone with an Ubuntu VM with Jalview dev environment
handy could try :
- an alternate look and feel
- to debug the db chooser layout
