Yes I agree.  Here's what I would like to do.

a) make an mbox file mail repository for pop3 accounts (and whatever else),
b) a file based spool repository basically combine the stream & object store
repositories into a single file.  While the pair file is nice, it's proven
to be extra work, and it's not really that difficult to combine the data
into a single file (and I don't see a big benefit out of separate files).

mbox would be great since it's interchangeable with other email programs,
but as a single file, it seriously limits the scalability of a spool being
accessed by multiple threads, hence the need for a separate multi-file spool
repository.  In the eyebrowse project on www.tigris.org, there's an mbox
reader class, and they have a BSD style license.  I can start from that and
hopefully get something sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure what other are standard formats worth implementing or if there
is code we can start from...
