I had to wipe and reinstall the OS of our mail server, and one thing lead to another and I finally upgraded our companies main gateway server to the latest James code (was stuck on 1.2.1 for quite a while now).
As I expected, even with the hack to retry when Excalibur fails, the Excalibur database 'pooling' code is extremely unreliable. I've taken the Excalibur's configuration structure and stuck in the database pooling code I wrote for Town, to create the "org.apache.james.util.mordred" db conn pooling package. I'll commit the pooling code shortly. After this, I only have to migrate away from the Avalon file repositories, and James should be ready for maybe even a beta release (!).
