I've been pondering the whole SMTP2 vs modified SMTP to stop spamming, and haven't had anything that useful to say... to me it seems too ambitious to try to get everyone to move away from SMTP. Besides, there is a rather flexible way to extend those commands, so in theory you could just work with the same protocol... maybe add some new headers, and maybe some new ESMTP commands.
