I found that the new code did NOT work with Sun JVM 1.3.0. It crashed, but
when we looked at the stack trace, it appeared very odd. It appears to have
been a JVM defect, and the same code runs fine on BOTH Sun JVM 1.4.1_01 and
IBM JVM 1.3.1.
In any event, I'm up and running with it, and continuing to test. The
purpose of this is give anyone with Sun JVM 1.3.0 a heads up on the problem.

Will do. I've already done the following:
i) Validated that the build still works - it does, although there are
now 200+ deprecated messages. As a temporary measure, until we replace
compose() with service() (which is scheduled for rev++) I'd suggest that
the deprecated option be set to 'off' in the build.xml.
ii) Run the server on Windows and confirmed that it comes up, and
responds to basic SMTP and RemoteManager requests.
iii) Delivered a dist to Noel, who will be running a similar test on
Linux.
After (iii) is completed, I think we'll be in a position to upgrade.
Note that we are still running with the older version of Cornerstone, to
avoid any possible issues with ComponentManager.
