There is actually. The most widely used SMSC protocol
is SMPP (3.4 & 3.3) .. there is a open source java
implementation from Logica
(http://opensmpp.logica.com). It is unsupported by
logica now, but it does work and implemented by many
ESME applications( at least i have done quite a few
:>). Only few bugs with Binary SMS capability and
socket connections, but the forum took care of them.
