For the discussion below, assume $JAMES_HOME is the root directory of James. When I tried to start the latest 2.1a1 image, I saw "cannot initialize AvalonMailRepository; SecurityManager - AccessControlException: access denied $JAMES_HOME/apps/james/var/mail/spool" It seems I have seen this problem before, and that it was solved with the proper permissions block in environment.xml. In that file, what value is 'app.home' supposed to be? Looking at the portion dealing with logging, it appears to be $JAMES_HOME/apps/james. However, that directory does not have subdirectories 'blocks' or 'lib', as called for in the security block.
