You could try to change your JVM settings, i.e. modify  run.sh  where it
"Kicks the tires and lights the fires!!!":

$JAVA_HOME/bin/java \
 -server
 -Xms128m -Xmx128m
...

With this your James may live a bit longer life under high load.
