Randy,

I don't expect that your issue and the slow POP issue are related, but we'll
see.

You can setup james-cvs in a separate directory tree with its own config for
testing. Just pick something like 2500 and 11000 for the ports, instead of
the standard SMTP and POP3, and also put RemoteManager on something other
than 4555 (e.g., 45550). You'd also want a separate datastore. Just keep
everything separate from the live james, and we can test with you without
interfering with your public server. If you expose a public port, one of us
can telnet in, or run Outlook or OE through a proxy server to look at what's
happening.

I get about 1000 e-mails per day through james. Normally, I pull mine at
regular intervals, but this past week's access has been sporadic, so I've
done some pretty hefty pulls. Nary a problem.

        --- Noel

Hello Peter,

Thanks for all the help......

just out of curiosity....how similar?
and also out of curiosity, do you have a record of the changes made to the
POP3server during the transition from 2.0a2 to 2.0a3?

I'm willing to accept the notion that my problem is environmental but since
2.0a2 works quite well I have to believe that a sensitivity to my
environment was introduced in the code for 2.0a3 and persists in the
latest -cvs. just last saturday a dial-up user from Jakarta, Indonesia
retrieved and deleted 1360 messages in a single connection. I saved that
chunk of log if anyone wants to see it.

I spent a couple of hours today reentering users and passwords. I'm using
database storage for user info now so I can bounce back and forth between
FrankenJames and the latest -cvs without have to change anything........

have a wonderous day/evening, everybody

-randy
