John,
I updated my CVS of Japhar yesterday and built it just fine. I build
it with '--with-x' and '--with-sun-jdk=/usr/local/jdk1.1.5' and that's
it. I have Lesstif installed on the box, hence the with-x stuff.
Make sure you do the stuff outlined in HACKING before running
configure.
