Ok here it works (proof: http://www.horus.ch/servlets/Hello) with
SuSE 5.1 -- what I've done is :
1. Unpacked apache 1.3.4
-> a) compiled it (it worked)
-> b) change the config to suit 1.3 apache
-> c) unpacked Ben-SSL over it
-> d) Followed instruction, compiled it worked again
-> e) Changed the config for SSL
2. Installed JDK 1.1.3
3. Installed JSDK
4. Unpacked ApacheJserv1.0b3
BUT ! There are two way to configure jserv, IIRC :
a) a manual way into src/
b) an automatic one into the rootdir
One of them didn't worked and the other (the automatic one I think) worked.
AND : At each step I read all README and INSTALL files !!!!!
AND : You cannot avoid installing things manually like cp httpdnew /sbin/...
