Prior to pulling the last of my hair out, I have tracked this problem down.
It seems that the shared memory file should be removed if there are
configuration changes between a server restart, or start/stop. No one else
has mentioned this, so perhaps it's an AIX only thing.

Could someone explain the "virtual host" concept a little more. I just
considered the fact that since this is a load-balanced system JServ should
just roll to the next JServ JVM if the one that it was expecting to use
disappears. Right? So the "virtual host not found or not running" error is
making less sense to me. Especially now that I have added info that tells
me exactly where mod_jserv is trying to connect.

As Bernie said, ajpv12 doesn't permit load-balancing now because the
JSERV_ROUTE info is not sent to JServ (AKAIK).
and the latest CVS contents send a cookie name containing the zone (This
will be working, I have a patch for this one on the C side).
So do not try the latest files, your problems are in your config I
believe.
