It's not scientific evidence, but I have only seen a Linux crash once in nearly
two years of using it -- and that was caused by trying to add some flaky memory
on my development system (an HP box).  I've had two Linux servers running for
over a year (one is a Dell, and one a Gateway) with only three cases of
downtime -- all three caused by the need to move the hardware, not anything to
do with the OS.

As you might imagine, I like Linux a lot because of this.  I support NT-based
stuff because I have to, but in my book this kind of reliability ranks way
above other criteria (such as performance and price), although LInux-based
systems can compete on those grounds quite nicely as well.
