Leaving my simple life and "playing with Java" on Windows for awhile,
What's this Pier, you upgrade your Unix libs but still use early 90's libs for Windows
when compiling <g> ?

Ditto - Your Windows system will be happier!
Unix is such a "different way" for me - but if you use Unix look at the following and
see if it helps the "Unix" Windows users:
http://sourceware.cygnus.com/cygwin
Also this note: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
This is an announcement of our latest cygwin ports for the releases
apache_1.3.9-cygwin
php-4.0b2-cygwin
The source packages may be found in the download section of our
project's web site at
http://www.student.uni-koeln.de/cygwin/
These ports should synchronize our apache and php ports to the current
releases of the official developers.
Since release apache_1.3.9-cygwin we are now supporting the dynamic
loadable library (DLL) build mode to create a dynamic linkable
"libhttpd.dll" library. Any additional modules may be compiled into this
DLL to decrease the resource needs of the server and hence tune the
performance at least on Windows NT systems, since Windows 9x platforms
are still not supported for multi-process mode operation.
(personal note: Unix and Windows users need to "defind" process, task, threads and
etc. I believe the above Windows 9x note is "confusing" (or is just me) end personal
note)
We are still dealing with the folks at the ASF (Apache Software
Foundation) to include our cygwin patch to the official source
distribution. You may contribute to this effort by posting a proposal to
the developers mailing list at "[EMAIL PROTECTED]".

Stipe

(personal note: And I think (some times) that this is a GNU ( is this the same Unix
thingy you guys use?) Windows C compiler. end of personal note)
Mingw FTP archives

FTP Upload
Thanks to Michael Hirmke it is possible to host your port at the
German gnuwin32 mirror ftp.franken.de. If you upload a port, Michael
will create a seperate directory for your package and also include
it in his package report. Please see the last lines of
<http://aquarius.franken.de/docs/develop/gnuwin32/GNUWin32.txt> for
specific upload instructions since there is some 'protocol' for
designing your packages.
Try:
http://www.acc.umu.se/~anorland/gnu-win32/w32api.html
I believe that these are the latest. They do contain the wininet.h file, but I
don't know if the file contains the macros that you're looking for. If this
distribution doesn't contain what you're looking for, then the defines that
you need just haven't been implemented yet. Like I said, I believe that these
are the latest Win32 APIs.
End all notes XXXXXXXXXX
I am so confused and had such a hard time trying to use Emacs, bash, Java and good ole
Windows (what I'm use to) edlin <g>! I'm too old to "relearn". Just the time alone to
learn is time from the old Windows way. I took my Windows C (version 4) compiler off
the computer years ago and now only "play with" Java JDK1.3 but it's out there for you
"kids"!
If you need a Win32 function name to get you "compiling" just ask. I like research
(call me a programmers librarian) but you "compile and try and error" it <g>.
I now return back to my simple life, cutting the lawn, walking for my health (you
should start too <g> ), playing with Java over the net and a little wine in the
Grapevine Texas (USA) area.
Thanks for everything you've done Jon for all these years.
I' ll be a readin' and I hope this helps,
JLW
