You could also try www.mapsonus.com  by Lucent.  I used them once on an
academic project and if I recall correctly I think they provide a free api
provided you follow so guidelines so that they get credit for the map so
something to that effect.

Hey,

   MapQuest wants $40K, if you can believe it, for api access to it's
servers, if
I want to use a cgi program to use thier service.

   Since this year, I am on a rampage to erradicate cgi from any new
projects for this
year, I was wondering if anyone knows of a different service on the net that
can
provide me with jsp/servlet access to map information, minus the $40K price
tag just to
do so.

  It would seem Map Quest is mighty confident I won't find a competitor in
this area,
and that they can punish me for using the Java api.  I think that is a bit
excessive,
don't you think?  $40K for a map function on a cgi page?  Wow, I can't even
charge
those sorts of prices and we build enterprise wide apps for networks that
span
continents!

  In any case, I just want to be able to place a map with a location on it
with perhaps
directions.  Anybody familair with this software?
