Hi,
I am looking for feedback on the creation of a new
"Troubleshooting" section in the FAQ.
We all see a lot of messages come through this list saying...
"I've got this error in my log. What is the problem."
These are fine questions, but it would be great to come up with
a way to capture the solutions to these problems more effectively
in the FAQ. Therefore, I have created a new section in the
FAQ with the following heading.
Troubleshooting
Underneath this heading, each entry should be of the form
[<logfilename-or-source-of-error>] <error message>
Then whenever someone gets that error in that log file, they
can look at the FAQ and see all of the things that might have
caused that error and what the solutions were.
In addition, when we get questions like this, we should respond
by putting the answer in the FAQ and posting to the list that
the answer has been added in the Troubleshooting section of
the FAQ.
I am aware that the "Configuration Questions" section of the
FAQ deals with many of these troubleshooting issues already.
However, I think that what I am proposing would be easier for
people to use, because they could look up their exact error
and then see the discussion about causes and solutions.
Any thoughts about whether this is a good direction for the FAQ?
Should I remove the "Troubleshooting" section and stick to the
"Configuration Questions" section?
Stephen
