I don't see a patch file here. Your proposal would be easier to evaluate as a
patch file. Also, a contribution like this will be easier to accept if your
new classes are in the contrib tree. Then, if they prove popular, they can
move into the core. Or perhaps folks will find them so obviously useful
they'll want them in the core from the start, but contrib would require less
convincing.
