Hello Team,

well, first of all, let's take a deep breath! Behind us are a couple of
busy weeks. I would like to take this chance to thank everyone very much
for the great work! We're on track for our 2.2 release on the 19th of June.

As announced I created a Lucene 2.2 branch today from trunk revision
r545056 here:
 https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/lucene/java/branches/lucene_2_2/

As of now a feature freeze of this branch is in effect. In detail this
means to the committers:

- No new features may be committed to the branch.
- Documentation patches, build patches and serious bug fixes may be
committed to the branch. However, you should submit *all* patches you
want to commit to Jira first to give others the chance to review and
possibly vote against the patch. Keep in mind that it is our main
intention to keep the branch as stable as possible.
- All patches that are intended for the branch should first be committed to
trunk and then merged into the branch.
- Normal trunk development may continue as usual. However, if you plan to
commit a big change to the trunk while the branch feature freeze is in
effect, think twice: can't the addition wait a couple more days? Merges
of bug fixes into the branch may become more difficult.
- *Only* Jira issues with Fix version "2.2" and priority "Blocker" will
delay a release candidate build. If on June 17th none of those issue are
in Jira I will build a release candidate and call a release vote on
 java-dev.

We should make use of this feature freeze and spend the next 10 days for
extensive testing and javadoc improvements. Also help with the maven patch
(LUCENE-622) is welcome.

Let's keep up the great work! I'm very confident that version 2.2 will be a
good one!

- Michael
