I was thinking of adding a patch for https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-1085 and subsequently help to integrate it into solr. I try to get it done as soon as possible. I remember yonik mentioned that 2.9 could make it into solr 1.4 so this would be a good opportunity. If not i will just do it for 3.0
