We are developing java applications using Swing for all user interface
work. We have only just moved to Linux, our applications are at an early
stage. But my thoughts so far are
1. Linux has been a little more strict on a few things than Win Nt so I
had to tidy the code. For example setVisible(true) in constructors is
not liked. I do not blame Linux but I think JDK on WinNt was too loose
and let me do naughty things (some of which I had picked up when using
the Jikes compiler on WinNt).
2. Swing looks great and so far works great, not just on our code but on
some larger code in tools we use.
I feel this is a winner.

ps using Jdk1.1.6v4a, Swing 1.1b2 (some tools are only working under
1.03 so we use both), Debian 2.0 (Hamm), Jikes 0.37, JDE 2.1.1 in Xemacs
