Unfortunately rt.jar contains platform specific code (e.g. the
sun.awt.motif package) and so it is not possible to run e.g. the linux
JVM with rt.jar from a Windows JDK. Even rt.jar from the Solaris JDK
is slightly different.

There are several tools that support continuation of interrupted ftp
downloads: wget, ncftp, ...
