If you have jdk1.2/bin in your PATH, the sym links there point to a
shell script which sets LD_LIBRARY_PATH appropriately. You
don't have to set it yourself unless you are writing native code
to use the Invocation API.

Well, thanks, but this didn't work for me either.
Even if it would have worked, this seems like a bug to me. I don't think you
should have to go into your shell initialization scripts every time a new
version of java comes out..
Where is this LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable documented?
