Except that by now Java 2 is no longer supposed to be cutting edge
stuff. Yet, if I get it right, that the linux port requires such
beasts as libstdc++-libc6.0-1.so.2 means it is linked against cutting
edge stuff, sometimes even vapourware, and the porting team expects us
to follow suit. Where is the choice here?
Osvaldo's complaint would only appear on a gnome mailing list, and not
a java-linux mailing list, if the linux port were linked against less
pioneering libraries.
At least, to use the C programming language on linux, one may choose
between gcc 2.7.x and gcc 2.8.x without loss of functionality and
standard compliance either way. Perhaps it is the opinion of most of
you that C is stable whereas Java, even Java 1.0, is considered
cutting edge altogether, in which case I am wordless.
