This discussion happened before, and blew up into a dumb, nasty debate.
Please let's avoid the rabid opinions this time around and just
concentrate on solving the problem. Bzip2 is not all that new, and it's
an excellent approach to compression that saves bandwidth and download
time on huge files like the JDK distribution.

Speaking of distributions, you might check your RH5.2 disk. If you don't
find an RPM there for bzip2, grab an RPM from one of the convenient Red
Hat repositories, such as:

http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/distributions/redhat/old-releases/redhat-5.2/i386/RedHat/RPMS/bzip2-0.9.0b-2.i386.rpm
