You do know that Kaffe is a GPL implementation of a JVM and the Java
libraries right? That is about as "Open Source" as it gets. Kaffe runs
great on Linux and supports a lot of apps. If you really want to
see Open Source Java on Linux you should help support the Kaffe
project (see www.kaffe.org). There is also a LGPL Java impl called
Japhar, but I have had less luck getting Java programs to work
with Japhap when compared to Kaffe.
