as I understand it, glx is the opengl extention to the X Windows System,
it's not the hardware acceleration in itself (which uses DRI), it
creates an OpenGL rendering context and a drawable window (OpenGL
Programming guide, Red Book), and the other OpenGL demos seemed to
work...

The one I use was installed with XFree4.0 as a standard, and I think,
the indirect
rendering mode _is_ Mesa, but I could be wrong...
