As Pete has already pointed out, the 2D team is busy preparing for
JavaOne these days. The clarification you seek is not something that
can be typed up in a few minutes.
The terminology used in the imaging classes was absolutely not written
"without regard for any part of the existing World". It was, in fact,
written with an incredibly broad view of the many users of imaging
frameworks and image processing libraries with such partners as Kodak,
Adobe, and Sun's experts in various branches of imaging covering
medical imaging, scientific visualization, and satellite image analysis.
I can't cite specifics since I am not the imaging expert on the team,
but I do know that the terminology is not consistent across all of the
arts. I'm not exactly sure what your particular background is, but if
the terminology is not consistent with that background then that does
not necessarily make it unique.
Hopefully we will have time to clarify the documentation later this
month after JavaOne has passed...
